Hi there! I’m Ross Plainse, a high school student from Carmel, California, with a genuine passion for aviation and travel.
My parents have always had a deep love for travel, and I’ve been fortunate to tag along on their global adventures since I was little. That early exposure sparked my passion for the fastest and safest form of transportation, airplanes. During my early years, my parents took me to aviation museums and airshows in different towns and cities while we were traveling. My favorite is the EAA Aviation Museum in Oshkosh, WI. Last year, my website project “Queen of the Skies: the Boeing 747” competed in National History Day and was a State Finalist. At age 13, I completed my first flight lesson, further accelerating my desire to spend more time in the cockpit. The feeling of the controls, the beautiful scenery spreading out in every direction, and the array of colors below, flying is truly an experience like no other.
Someone who I believe would share that sentiment was my first cousin once removed, Col. David Banholzer, who was the 14th Presidential Pilot of the United States, former Commander of Air Force One. Although he passed away when I was little, I feel a strong connection to his legacy, how he had dedicated his life to his passion, and to use that passion for a higher purpose. I have a calling to honor his memory by contributing to the beautiful world of flight.
As the great polymath Leonardo da Vinci once said:
“For once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
Those words perfectly describe my love for aviation.
